Unstable Surface Training and Other “Neat” Vertical Jump Training Techniques

December 21, 2009

Let’s get real for a second.

I’m assuming…

  • You want results from your training.
  • You want the best results in the quickest possible time.

Just because your workout is ‘neat’, and just because it is difficult does not mean it is creating the desired training effect.

This sounds silly, as well as obvious.

Best Supplements For Vertical Jump Training

vertical jump supplements

vertical jump supplements

One common question that I keep getting from readers is whether supplements really help us
jump higher.

I can’t blame you – there’s thousands of supplements in the market today claiming to work wonders, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to separate the great products from the crappy ones.

The sad truth is that most supplements are total crap, merely marketing gimmicks by large supplement companies to steal your hard-earned money.

However, there are a few supplements that really aid in vertical jump training.

The first thing to remember is that supplements are just that – SUPPLEMENTS.

They are meant to support your current diet.

Taking supplements by themselves will not help you increase your vertical jump.

You need to have a good diet already in place for supplements to have maximum effect.

So, which vertical jump supplements help you jump higher?

How To Prevent Vertical Jump Training Injuries

October 9, 2009

There is nothing worse than getting injured in sports.

I’ve had my fair share of
vertical jump training
injuries, but the worst happened when I was in high school.

I injured my left knee badly, and I had to miss a whole season of basketball.

I couldn’t practice, and all I could do was sit on the bench and cheer my teammates on.

I didn’t mind cheering for my teammates, but I was itching to play.

I wanted to help the team by being on the court, not the bench.

During my sophomore year in college, I injured my left knee again.

I got a serious case of patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee) that made it almost impossible to run or change speeds.

I’m sure you’ve had a similar experience too, so today I’m going to talk about the different ways to prevent injuries while training your vertical jump.

I’ve outlined the top 6 injury prevention methods in a simple yet fun to read article.

You can read it here.

September 6, 2009

Alan Barch Jr. is a 5’9″ athletic trainer who recently recorded the world’s first OFFICIAL
50 inch vertical jump.

This has to be the highest vertical jump ever recorded.

Many athletes have been RUMORED to have a 50 inch vertical leap, but they have never bothered to get tested.

Alan is the first who has OFFICIALLY been tested and measured.

It’s amazing to see how high he gets off the ground.

Here are the official results of his test:

Height: 5’9″

Standing reach: 7 feet 5.5 inches

Standing vertical jump: 50 inches

Running vertical jump: 54.5 inches

If this doesn’t inspire you to train harder, nothing will!

So if you want to take your vertical to the next level, read my review of the
best vertical jump programs right now.

Pick the one that best suits you, and follow it to the T (my favorite vertical jump program is the Jump Manual).

Challenge yourself to see how close you can get to Alan’s incredible feat.

Khadour Ziani is a 5′ 10″ French dunker (originally from Algeria) rumored to have a 56 inch vertical jump.

I don’t know if he can jump that high, but he is one of my favorite dunkers of all time (gotta rep for the short guys).

He has some pretty SICK dunks, especially when he jumps off one foot.

His signature dunk is a 360 off one foot, and he is also famous for his ability to KICK the rim.

Let me know what you think of his dunks by leaving a comment below.

Also, if you want to learn how to dunk like Khadour, check out my comprehensive reviews of the best vertical jump programs in the market.

The #1 Vertical Jump Training Rule Nobody Knows About

August 22, 2009

The Pareto Principle

The Pareto Principle

Today, I want to tell you about the number 1
vertical jump training rule that almost NOBODY knows about.

The cool thing is that this rule doesn’t just apply to vert training.

It applies to EVERYTHING in life.

The rule was accidentally discovered by an Italian economist called Vilfredo Pareto when he noticed that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population.

When he thought about this in more detail, he discovered that this applied to everything in life.

Jumpers knee

Jumpers knee

Jumpers knee a.k.a patellar tendonitis, is one of the most frustrating injuries for athletes like you and me.

It makes it extremely painful and sometimes almost impossible to run and jump.

I’ve personally suffered from tendonitis on my left knee, and it began when I did a certain vertical jump program when I was 16 years old (if you follow this blog, you will know what program that is).

The injury caused me to lose several inches on my vertical jump, and took me out of action for a whole year.

Anyway, I’ve compiled a list of the different ways to prevent and treat this common injury.

You can read it here.

If you want to jump higher for your sport, it’s important to know how to prevent and cure this common injury.

Learn how to do this now before it’s too late.

Do Jumpsoles Really Make You Jump Higher?

Jumpsoles System

Jumpsoles System

I have been an avid reader of SLAM magazine for the past 12 or so years.

It’s a great magazine with really cool articles on basketball, from high school to the pros.

I will never forget the first day I saw the Jumpsoles ad in my SLAM mag.

I was completely amazed that I could simply attach this platform thingy on my shoe and it would help me increase my vertical jump by 5-10 inches!

It made a lot of sense, saying that the device would elevate my heels and put all my body weight on my calves and achilles tendons, making them stronger and more explosive.

This would then give me cat like quickness and make me jump higher and dunk like crazy!

I put off buying the Jumpsoles for YEARS, but every month as I read my new issue of SLAM, the ads kept getting to me.

Finally, I decided to buy them.

I saved up some money and ordered my first pair of Jumpsoles.

The package arrived on time, and I ripped open the box to get started immediately.

I laced up my favorite basketball sneakers and warmed up by jogging on the spot as I read the instructions manual.

I excitedly attached the platforms to my shoes, and began my workout…

After a few weeks of using the program, I had mixed feelings and results, which I talk about in my Jumpsoles review.
