You don’t have to be tall to be a great blocker, and you don’t have to have a high vertical jump either.
The two most important aspects of blocking are body positioning and timing.
If you can master these two things, you will become a great blocker.
How To Block A Volleyball
- Stand as close to the net as possible without touching it.
- Always jump straight up with open hands. This will improve your chances of blocking the ball.
- Reach over the net and down to cut off the hitter’s angles.

Always keep your eyes open – it sounds simple, but it is very important.
Also, work on improving your vertical jump and your quickness.
Do this by training your posterior chain muscles (lower back, glutes, quads, and hamstrings)
